String Theory Charter Schools, Nutcracker Returns Featuring a Full Cast of Students From Various Neighborhoods in the City of Philadelphia

Situation:

Every year, Philadelphia Performing Arts: A String Theory Charter School puts on the most professional Nutcracker ballet. Of course, not during COVID … so coming back this year felt very special to the students and to Ballet Instructor/Director Natalia Charova. She sent an e-mail asking if we could try to get TV coverage because Nutcracker returned this year and also there are nine boys in the production. NINE! That’s unheard of. Usually if they had one or two boys, they were thrilled. Nine was unheard of! We arranged for an Open Rehearsal for Press Only and students, dressed in beautiful costumes, rehearsed. We were delighted – 6abc and CBS3 covered it and NBC 10 used our video. The story on 6abc was a feature presented by Alicia Vitarelli, who brings so much life to a story. One boy who was interviewed said he gave up his string instrument for ballet when he saw the beauty of performing ballet. The day after the feature ran, we got an e-mail from Bill Rohrer of Fox29. He apologized for missing our open rehearsal and asked if he could shoot it again – with lots of footage and many interviews. That happened Friday Dec. 10 and he promised it would be repeated through the holiday season. Plus, we made a new friend in Bill Rohrer who is fascinated by this amazing school …. www.stringtheoryschools.org He’s not the only one impressed. Apple features String Theory on their website, Star Wars producer George Lucas has an educational documentary company and they filmed four features at String Theory. Many more honors and many more fabulous stories about students!

PR Results:

KYW CBS came to the open rehearsal and the story aired during the noon news. WPVI ABC also came to the open rehearsal and reporter Alicia Vitarelli broadcasted the story during the 5 p.m. news. WCAU NBC ran the story using our footage. The story also aired on WPHL 17 later that evening.
